Start with two known references
Use two map references that you can identify consistently. Mark the observation point first, then note the direction each reference gives you. The intersection is a working location, not proof that the target is correctly identified.
- Name the first reference and write the direction or measurement beside it.
- Repeat from the second reference without changing the map scale.
- Compare the intersection with terrain and the mission description.
- Only then transfer the working position into the firing solution.
Keep the map scale fixed
A measurement copied from one zoom level is hard to audit at another. Capture the map scale or grid context in your notes so the correction can be repeated after a miss.
If the two lines do not meet near a plausible target area, revisit the references before touching the gun settings.
